Patient’s Heart Attack Caused By Physician Negligence
MILLION DOLLAR PLUS – SEVEN FIGURE CONFIDENTIAL GLOBAL GROSS SETTLEMENT – MEDICAL MALPRACTICE – CARDIAC CATH LAB MALPRACTICE – HEART PROCEDURE AND WRONGFUL DEATH
Tampa Bay Area, FL
This action involved allegations of medical malpractice by a man in his early seventies (Plaintiff-victim) against a cardiologist, medical group and hospital where he underwent a questionable heart procedure in the hospital’s cath lab.
The heart catheterization (“cath”) procedure and stent insertion caused the Plaintiff-victim to suffer a serious complication called a right coronary spiral “dissection” or tear to one of her heart’s main arteries. The physician caused tear to the right coronary artery during the heart cath, which could not be repaired and ultimately the tear in the right coronary artery induced a heart attack to the patient.
Shortly after the procedure was over the Plaintiff-victim had severe chest pain and had to be taken back into the cath lab where it was determined that the Plaintiff-victim’s right coronary artery was closed down. The Plaintiff-victim worsened and was transferred to a local, higher acuity cardiac hospital for care. The patient suffered significant losses to his heart’s ability to pump blood throughout the body as the result of the procedural complication and negligence.
A thorough death and medical malpractice investigation revealed that the only plausible explanation for the Plaintiff-victim’s dissection and subsequent heart-attack was physician and/or facility negligence, i.e. malpractice, by the substandard performance of a questionable heart procedure that resulted in a preventable injury to the heart. The physician induced heart attack was not timely and properly diagnosed.
